photograph of Minehead beach, Somerset, UK

Welcome to Simon Long Images

Independent documentary photographer based in West Sussex, UK. My aim is to document life around me; whether that be family, my surroundings or the places that I go.

To create my imagery, I use both digital and film mediums. My interest in film photography was revived in 2019, having not used film for almost 15 years. I am so pleased that this form of photography still exists and I find the process of taking photographs on film truly captivating.

The purpose of this site is to show case some of my work and to document my photography journey.

This photo was taken today near Teddington Lock on the River Thames using my new-to-me 85mm f1.4. Very happy with this lens; I’ve wanted one of these for ages 🎉😂

Worthing Pier and #kodakektachrome Before digital Worthing Pier and #kodakektachrome

Before digital photography, I would have nearly always chosen slide films. Since getting back into film, I’ve felt indifferent to it for a number of reasons, the main one of which is cost. But also, compared to digital and even negative film, dynamic range is seriously limited. I’ve also thought the colours were a lot more saturated than I’ve come to like.

But I really like #ektachrome100. Needs to be an occasional treat at £20 a roll. But if that’s what we need to pay for #kodak to keep making it, then so be it.
